Combining a wide variety of styles and influences for something completely unique, Bones in Butter have excelled on their latest single, “Scenes From The Metro”. Read on as we share our glowing review, as well as a background on this talented band.

Currently representing the music scene all the way in Belgrade, Serbia, Bones in Butter have dipped their toes into post-rock, but with plenty of other elements that fully border on psychedelic and experimental. On their newest single “Scenes From the Metro”, it’s truly an auditory experience and almost feels more like a journey than a standard song. Plain and simple, we absolutely love this, so please give it a close listen whenever you get the chance.

On the background of it all, the band claims it is “a sad but true tale. It is the heart-breaking story of a centennial dream, the dream of the Belgrade Metro, a project that has never been implemented”. As we’ve actually spent significant time in Belgrade ourselves, and enjoyed every minute of it, we can understand the mutual feeling of them not having that underground network. Although we do think it’s quite clever on the band’s part to create this song as a message to whoever’s listening to get themselves in gear on that specific project.

Putting the message aside though, honestly every single facet of this song from the opening notes is pure beauty. The production focuses on these intense soundscapes that are really amplified by listening with a nice pair of headphones. It’s almost like a modern day Pink Floyd, but Bones in Butter still manages to create something entirely new for themselves. They say this is their venture into post-rock, but in our opinion, it’s so much more than that. The experimentation with backing effects, vocal modulation, and whatever lineup of instruments they used feels groundbreaking in its own right. This was our introduction to the band, but we can confidently say we’ve fallen in love with their sound, and cannot wait to continue to listen to more!
