Fresh off the release of his single “Barren Field” and right before the release of his newest album, the artist known as Bomethius was kind enough to drop in for a full interview! Please check it out below.

For those potentially out of the loop, Bomethius is the solo project of multi-instrumentalist, Jonathan Hodges. As his newest album Awful, Pompous, & Artificial begins its rollout for a release on December 31st, 2022, we were lucky enough to grab Jonathan to talk all about one of the lead singles, “Barren Field”. During our conversation, we touched on a variety of topics spanning from his production, an honest look at the music industry, and his ultimate goals to accomplish by the end of next year. The priority though is giving this new single a listen as soon as you can.

Currently based in Chicago, Bomethius has plenty coming up, but especially an album release show at The Rabbit Room on December 30th to celebrate the record’s release. In the meantime, legitimately his music has been on nonstop since it initially got sent to us. We spoke about it in-depth during our discussion, but a focal point was essentially just how well he’s managed to blur the lines between genres. It starts out as this almost slow going indie folk track, but eventually blossoms into so much more with the help of a talented team of musicians lending their help. It’s difficult being an independent artist, but he’s let us know just how important it really is to surround yourself with those that are on your level.

With that being said though, if “Barren Field” is any indication of the full record’s sound, consider our hype levels to be at an all time high. Particularly this niche of music and the way it was formed perfectly aligns with our musical preferences, so it’s going to be a real journey once the album is ready to be heard in full. We expect more of a “baroque” tone as Jonathan mentioned, but surely there will be twists, turns, and adventurous passages that show themselves too. We’re urging everyone out there to familiarize themselves with his music prior to listening to the record!
