With the release of their debut single “Wayback Blues”, we couldn’t help but be overly impressed by Blue Channel’s first output. Do yourselves a huge favor and read along with us as for our in-depth review on the track, as well as a background on the band.

Consisting of guitarist and vocalist Michael Gonzalez, Daniel Casares, and Nick Groat, this rock power trio is an all new group that goes by the name of Blue Channel. After playing a few gigs together while attending Berklee College of Music, the three decided to give it a go. Thankfully they did, because their unique blend of genre usage has directly contributed to the greatness created on “Wayback Blues”.

So the story now goes, the group originally started as an experimental rock jam band but eventually gravitated to writing songs. Anything from jazz and classic rock from the 60s to Alternative Rock from the 90s might contribute to Blue Channel's fresh new sound. What you’ll immediately hear on “Wayback Blues” is a healthy dose of what feels like alternative rock in the beginning, but quickly takes shape to an all out jam fest towards the end. Whatever genre you’d like to pigeonhole this in, it doesn’t even really matter, because it rocks regardless.

One of our favorite things about the all seemingly rare trio is that each member openly gets to showcase their talents, nothing feels like it’s getting hidden. While this is the band’s debut single to the world, we can confidently claim that they’ve knocked it out of the park in every sense of the phrase. The vocals are on point in the sense that they feature immense amounts of emotion in every line delivered. It would honestly be difficult to say that a section of this song was a standout, because the way that it transformed itself throughout its 5 minute run time was all a part of its charm.

We will say here that we’re suckers for a screaming guitar solo, so when that hit towards the end, we were more than sold. The real hopes here are that while this particular group started out as a jam band that feels like it was just for fun, that it swiftly changes over to recording more official tracks like these. Honestly, even an instrumental from talented musicians like this would be appreciated. Kicking back and focusing in on a specific member or instrument would be a really great way to familiarize ourselves with their sound.

Seriously though, for a first single, we’re beyond impressed at the output here. It should probably come as no surprise at this point, but we are highly suggesting and recommending you take the time out of your day to listen to “Wayback Blues” as soon as humanly possible. Crank it up loud and proud, as we would assume the band intended.
