Long awaited but finally arrived, Blake Cateris’ all new EP Days, Weeks, Months, & Years has delivered beyond all our expectations. Please keep reading for a closer look into the record, in addition to a much needed background on this talented musician.

Coming from a punk rock background but pivoting his sound to cater more towards indie folk, Blake Cateris is a singer and songwriter who’s clearly poured his heart and soul into his new EP, Days, Weeks, Months, & Years. Leaning quite heavily on imagery-filled lyricism, Blake so eloquently paints a picture of his struggles and experiences through inventive and expressive songwriting. It was a focal point of our listening but doesn’t take away from the vibrant instrumentation attached. Without a doubt, it’s a record we’re highly recommending for all to listen to.

Coming in at 4 total tracks, spanning right under the 10 minute mark, this EP feels like a bite size piece of pure artistry. For the most part, we found it to be relatively stripped back on the instrumentation, mainly featuring an acoustic guitar to back up Blake’s vocals. However to be perfectly honest, anything extra or gimmicky feels like it might have taken away from the rawness of these songs. The words and stories are right in your face, so anything else could have potentially disrupted that focus. It’s an EP jam packed with poetic storytelling and reflection, which these words give off effortlessly.

It’s also quite difficult to pick a favorite off the EP considering it’s only 4 songs long. With that being said though, we did find a nice cohesion and constant vibe that Days, Weeks, Months, & Years has to offer, not changing up the tone or aura too much. You sort of get sucked in through the title track and the rest has you on the edge of your seat waiting to hear how Blake’s life has unfolded, recounting the stories from his past. For a debut effort, there legitimately isn’t much that we can criticize, it feels incredibly well rounded and a perfect jumping off point for future releases!
