Branching out and starting a solo project of his own, Cam is already delivering gold on his lovely debut single, “Saturn in June”. Please keep reading for an in-depth look at the track, in addition to a background on the artist.

After 10+ years of leading the projects of Ghormeh Sabzi and Strange Mother, Cameron Bina has set out on a new musical journey debuting a song called “Saturn in June” under the new moniker, Cam Bina. Influenced by some of the greats like David Bowie and Daniel Johnston, he’s still managed to create a 100% unique sound and flavor, something like we’ve sincerely never experienced before, but have quickly come to love. We’re highly recommending a listen for everyone out there.

Capitalizing on the dreaminess within the song’s soundscape and impressively recorded in just one night, you’re immediately hit with a wave of emotion within the first 30 seconds of “Saturn in June”. The song features a production by multi-instrumentalist Jake Miles, who has truly helped to add in complexities and that ethereal feel throughout the listen. However, the two have really collaborated on something that innately feels intimate and expansive all at once. Considering Cam is a poet at heart, those skills have directly translated into imagery-filled lyricism, in which we urge everyone to attempt to make connections with as the song goes on.

At this point we’ve listened to “Saturn in June” around five times, and one of the most difficult things has been trying to nail down what genre it falls in. Calling it “experimental” is one thing, but we almost feel like it leans towards indie folk in a way. The instrumentation is otherworldly and adds such a focused dynamic, but the lo-fi vocals fit in like a puzzle as well. We suppose the label doesn’t necessarily matter as long as our joy for the song keeps staying high. The next venture will be to explore the music of Cam’s past, but also the hope that much more is on the way in terms of single releases and beyond.

With all that being said though, it should come as no surprise that we’re recommending this once again. So please, check out the links below to listen, follow along, and of course to stay tuned for major news.
