Ben Spivak reaches new highs on "Never Got to the Light"
Continuing his impressive run through 2021 with a string of single releases, Ben Spivak is back again with another instant hit, “Never Got to the Light”. Read on for our full and in-depth look at the track, as well as a refresher on the artist.
Best known for his touring stints with Magic! and Maroon 5, Ben Spivak is certainly continuing to make a name for himself with each subsequent single release. On his latest output, “Never Got to the Light”, it features a slightly varied but welcomed instrumentation, his always commanding vocal delivery, and the feeling of wanting more just as the song finishes up. This one is a complete winner.
At just a couple seconds shy of a four minute run time, “Never Got to the Light” does a fantastic dual job of not only telling a story, but compelling the listener on a production that keeps things interesting as well. Going on the instrumentation, we’re not quite sure if it was a sitar featured in the opening moments, but even throughout the track there’s a lot of outside influence that breaks the mold of standard rock and roll.
Hitting high after high with each line sung, Ben feels overly vulnerable on a song that feels deeply personal throughout. It wasn’t that long that we covered Ben’s first track of 2020 titled “Come A Day”. Since then though, it’s been an absolute joy to hear him experiment and make audible changes to his complete sound release after release. Now it would be an impossible venture to try to nail down which was one has been the “best” throughout the year, which is why we’ll throw it to the reader (and future listener) to make that decision for themselves. With that being said though, we do think “Never Got to the Light” is in the running for a top spot.
