Aztec Milk Temple debut their heavy new single, "Digital Natives"
Review by Austin Sher
Debuting on June 12, 2020, Aztec Milk Temple have released their debut single that we’re loving, titled “Digital Natives”. Read along with us as we give in an in-depth review into the track, as well as a bit of background on your new favorite band.
Based out of Texas, Aztec Milk Temple is a Neo-Grunge project featuring Scott Tucker, Vincent Martin, and Braxton Fugate. While things were heating up for the band back in December, when they debuted to a sold out crowd, the world took an unexpected turn and had different plans for the music industry. Thankfully though, their music is still being created and can be listened to virtually anywhere, thanks streaming!
A bit of background on the name of the band, because it definitely had us wondering. Scott Tucker let us know, “The band name comes from the idea that ancient civilizations such as the Aztec did all sorts of sacrificial rituals to the Gods that in the modern world we deem as savage. However, in my opinion we still make those kinds of sacrifices everyday, except over the course of a lifetime as we work to survive, have health insurance, buy stuff and keep the “figurative gods” of today happy and in power. The nourishment or (milk) of the Aztec sun god was blood, just as the nourishment of the 1% is our time, work and money. The “Temple” part of the band name refers to the inner library that I use to pull life experiences from to write the songs. The lyrical content of all the songs looks to explore, question and challenge this idea from both an insider/outsider perspective.” That’s certainly a unique name, but with the background makes it a lot more clear on how the dots are connected. If in today’s age King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and Psychedelic Porn Crumpets can be successful bands, why not Aztec Milk Temple?
Although the band was touring throughout 2019, it’s a massive plus for all that they managed to get together to release “Digital Natives”. We absolutely love what we heard from start to finish. The song is the perfect amount of heavy. The wonderful mix of grunge guitar, impeccable lead vocals, and overall instrumentation had us wanting another listen as soon as it ended. It immediately went on all of our summer and workout playlists, because it’s the type of song that not only gets us pumped up, but could definitely be played while cruising down to the beach.
Overall, we’re the newest fans of Aztec Milk Temple. We can’t wait to see what’s next and we sincerely hope you take the time to listen to their newest single.
