Hello Avi Sic, how are you today? Congrats on the release of ‘Like That’!

Thanks, I'm stoked on this track.

To start, tell us about your initial ideas and inspiration for the track. Did you have any specific sonic goal in mind when you set out to produce this new track?

My collaboration partners Smith & Sorren sent me the initial idea which went through many variations. Overall, our goal was to combine forces and make something of a hybrid - Tech House and Bass House forward.

Can you tell us how this collaboration with Smith & Sorren came about?

We met on Instagram, both had an appreciation for each other's music even though we gravitate toward slightly different genres. We are actually working on a second collaboration which is turning out really dope. Stay tuned for that to drop later this year.

What did the production process look like? How did you go about working with Smith & Sorren?

This was a second idea - a complete rework of our initial collaboration which we threw in the trash. We kept some elements - mainly drums and the overall arrangement but changed everything else. We definitely took our time with this one, sending ideas back and forth multiple times.

What part of collaborating with other Artists and Producers do you enjoy most?

I love how each artist brings different ideas to the table, things the other party wouldn’t necessarily have thought of. I think you take more risks in a collaboration for sure.

The track features a catchy vocal hook, can you tell us about this? How do you think the addition of the vocal impacts on the overall sound and energy of 'Like That’?

The second I found this vocal I knew it was a done deal. It’s catchy and fun. It fit the direction perfectly.

How do you hope listeners react to ‘Like That’?

I’ve been using it in my sets for a while now - it’s a great energy builder. It’s funky and gets people moving.

Featuring driving rhythmic details and thumping beats, the track guides listeners on an exciting auditory adventure. Can you walk us through your go-to techniques for creating music with such high energy and electrifying vibes?
It’s really about trying new things. Get the bassline solid enough to carry the track. Make sure there's lots of movement in the percussion section and fill out the rest with big, variated synths, unique fillers, and lots of ear candy.

How would you say ‘Like That’ compares to both your previous releases and those you have coming up this year?

I think it was the perfect end to my 2023 catalogue. This was the 11th original release of mine, not counting a few remixes. It’s fun, drum-heavy, playable in many different settings, and overall, more Tech House forward than my solo tracks.

What’s next for Avi Sic?

I just dropped a second release with Rock Bottom Records. A Madonna ‘Ray Of Light’ Edit. I initially made it as a personal edit - I'm a huge fan and wanted a version of the song that fit my sets. I also recently remixed Matroda’s track ‘That Funk You Want’. Both of these are available now for free download on Soundcloud. My next original release drops mid-February on Curbi’s label Seeing Is Believing with Warner Music. Very much looking forward to that – huge, Mainstage energy on that one.

We finish our interview by thanking Avi Sic for her time and sharing an insider’s look into her creativity and techniques. Sure to deliver another exciting year filled with unmissable music and unforgettable live shows, make sure to follow Avi Sic across social media to stay up-to-date with her upcoming releases and performances.
