25 year old Dutch singer and songwriter Ashley YQ has just put forth a single that we’re absolutely loving. Taking inspiration from her love of video games, synth pop, and dream pop, she’s managed to take the best of those genres and make something of her own. Pulling influence from her favorites like Madonna, Daft Punk, and The Pointer Sisters, her own signature sound has come through on the final mix.

So the story goes on the background of “My Valentine”, Ashley wrote the song to tell the story of a person who fell in love with the idea of being completely in love with another person. The immense amount of emotion comes through in the vocals, piano and synth. Ultimately though, the song is virtually guaranteed to get you right in the feels and put you in a place of relaxation. The mix of realness coming through on the lyrics and the atmosphere has us confidently feeling like this first track is a winner.

As mentioned, the song’s production is out of this world amazing. While listening, you literally feel like you’ve entered a dream state in which Ashley is singing directly to you. The song is intimate in the sense that it makes it feel like a one on one experience between you and the artist. It could just be the deep lyricism, but honestly, it really does feel like she’s speaking directly to you. A recommendation we will make here is to listen on your best pair of headphones or sound system. You’d be doing yourself a serious disservice if you strayed from that, there’s just a ton to be missed out on.

Looking on the outside in, Ashley YQ has done an outstanding job on the overall art direction of this track and it’s got us more than excited to see what else she crafts up over the coming year. Considering that she’s put out this single so early in 2021, we’re truly hoping that just means more is on the way. Even if it’s not though, there’s no doubt in our collective minds that we’ll continue to be listening to “My Valentine” on repeat.

With that being said, take our recommendation and give “My Valentine” all the listens. It’s personal, sounds fantastic, and is guaranteed to put you in a mood. Enjoy!
