You may remember not too long back when we covered Allison’s last album, Still I Rise. Thankfully, the artist has found inspiration in something new, and we think this might just be her best release yet. Combining similar sounds, yet refining her sound, this singer and songwriter has struck gold again.

At 9 songs in length, there was so much to dig into and love on Love Set Me Free. Right from the get go on the album’s opener, “Sing”, Allison proclaims her love for just that, singing. While it may sound simple, you’ll really just have to listen to get the full effect, but the intense amount of emotion filled into 3 minutes truly blew us away.

One thing that immediately stood out to us was the diverse range of instrumentation that was used on this record compared to Still I Rise. That’s not to say that the debut was lacking in any way, because it wasn’t, but the artist definitely took the liberties of creating a large and bombtastic sound that was front and center throughout nearly the entirety of the listen.

While we loved the atmosphere that she created, we couldn’t help but fall back in love again with her vocals. We called them “angelic” last time, and we think that still stands. With that being said though, she’s shown off in a different way this time around really displaying her range and what she’s capable of. We know that this was just released on January 11th, but is it bad that we’re already hoping for more?

Really though, all the songs on here are fantastic. It’s one of the albums that you really need to listen to from start to finish to get the full effect of things. There’s plenty isolated tracks that you could pick and put on playlists, but ultimately the true feelings and reflections come from an uninterrupted cohesive listening experience. Do yourselves that favor and check it out!
