Alexa Perez makes her return on stellar 2nd single, “Cliché”
As if her debut single “Wondering” wasn’t a hot enough start, Alexa Perez has come storming back with a sophomore track titled “Cliché” that’s gone above and beyond. Read on for our full review of the song, as well as a refresher on this artist.
Further revolutionizing her sound within the indie pop scene, Alexa Perez has included glimmers of different genres across the entire spectrum of music on her second single, “Cliché”. After seeing a ton of success on “Wondering”, we’re thrilled Alexa got right back to it and released such a beauty so quickly. While it’s similar in style, we quickly found it to be a lot more grand in sound. Regardless, we think everyone out there is going to vibe with it instantly.
Detailing her personal experiences of lingering heartbreak with her always imagery-filled lyricism, this song is vocally led by her powerhouse delivery and conviction. Not to make too many comparisons to the debut, but we found “Cliché”’s instrumental to be over the top in the best way possible. There’s shimmery strings towards the back half that give it so much complexity and a fairly consistent beat throughout that further complements the mix. On the production side of things, we can’t imagine a world where this song could be more stimulating. Anything else that somehow could’ve creeped in would ultimately feel jarring, she nailed it in that regard.
The last time we wrote about Alexa, a unanimous note was how she’d set the base going forward and that we’d be interested in seeing what came next. This obviously blew out all of our expectations, but she’s also pivoted towards creating something that’s a ton more genre diverse. While this certainly falls under the umbrella of pop, all of the other elements that are featured give her the outlet to continue to shape shift her style. Wherever she decides to take it on single #3, we confidently feel she’s in the driver seat for all the right decisions at this point.
