Officially released on June 4th, 2021, Alas de Liona has shared her absolutely breathtaking EP titled Radio Astronomy. We instantly fell in love right after our first listen. Please read along with us as we break down our complete thoughts on the record, in addition to a background on the artist.

Originally from the California desert, but now making music in Edinburgh, Scotland, Alas de Liona is putting together art that can only be defined as majestic and inspiring. On her latest output titled Radio Astronomy, the artist leads directly with her delicate yet powerful vocals that sit upon an atmospheric instrumentation that is sure to pique your interest. Kicking it right off, we are highly recommending you dive into this record as soon as possible.

Inspired by the classic lullaby, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, among other cosmic folktales, this record was put together in December 2020 at Post Electric Studios in Leith, Edinburgh. Right as the world began to shut down again, Alas was lucky enough to get everything recorded safely in a studio, but even better, each song got its own distinct music video to really bring them to a whole new life. We’ve linked everything below so you don’t miss out on it.

It cannot be overstated in the slightest as to just how beautiful and serene Radio Astronomy is. Every facet of its production and dreamlike state can be attributed to the immense amount of artistry that has gone into this. At 5 total songs, spanning just about 20 minutes, it’s the type of record that can be flipped on at a moment’s notice and never overstay its welcome. As much as we’d like to pick out a favorite track of ours, that would be a real impossible task as we think it’s better listened to from start to finish. Start yourself off with “As Diamonds” and strap in for a lush experience.

While this was our first introduction to the music of Alas de Liona, it certainly will not be our last. There’s more for us to discover in her discography, but in the meantime, we’ll be endlessly trying to recapture the feelings on the EP. Additionally, we know for a fact we’ll be keeping a close eye for everything that comes out in the future as well. Sincerely, this needs to be the next piece of music you listen to in your lives, enjoy!
