After months of coverage and anticipation for his album The Willows, the day has finally come and it's delivered in a huge way. Read our full review of Adam James’ record, in addition to a refresher on the artist.

Putting together a varied mix of alternative rock and all sorts of experimental sounds, we can confirm right away that Adam James’ debut album The Willows is a true winner. If for some reason you weren’t caught up with our reviews for “Falling Upwards” or “Sleep At Night”, we’ve been seriously hyped on this record for a few months now and we’re just so thankful that it came out as great as it did. We highly recommend a listen as soon as possible.

Without giving too much away here, because our preference would be for you to listen, some of our absolute favorites were the non-album singles. Coming in at a total of 10 songs, spanning just around 41 minutes in length, he’s crafted up a wonderful end of summer listen that we foresee ourselves getting into for a long time. Overwhelming the senses with a feeling of warm and inviting tones, there isn’t a single standout on The Willows, rather the music gives an unassuming hug from all sides of it.

Kicking things off with the opener “Shrug” is where we’d recommend you start, mainly because this doesn’t feel like the type of record you’d want to skip around on. The cohesiveness of it all makes for a lovely front to back listen that has tons of redeeming qualities. We were particularly fond of the lo-fi vocal approach that sits back in the mix and allowed the instrumentation to flourish on its own. There were so many fun production techniques used that we’re happy the stylistic choice here wasn’t to make the vocals the center of attention, not that they lacked in any way.

Instantly we envisioned ourselves jamming to this one on a long road trip as it’s primed perfectly for plenty of air guitar and drum moments. We suggest going for a nice stroll through a park or around town with this bumping, it’lll fit in quite nicely. At this point, you know what to do, get listening and support Adam James with his big release!
