1,000 Year Flood return with imagery-filled rocker, "Tonight We Fly"
Following up their stellar 2020 debut self-titled EP, 1,000 Year Flood have made a valiant return with an all new track titled “Tonight We Fly”. We are loving this one! Keep reading for a closer look into the track, as well as a much needed background on this band.
Serving as a precursor to their upcoming EP with a release date that is still TBD, we can confidently claim right now that 1,000 Year Flood haven’t lost their step in the last two years. For this Vancouver, Washington-based band, it all got started towards the end of 2019 when three dads came together to make some music. Unfortunately the pandemic hit, but they still managed to release an EP in the timeframe, which we would also suggest you give a spin as well. Their latest is titled “Tonight We Fly” and we simply haven’t been able to get enough of it.
Made up of William "Scott" Browning (vocals/guitar), Joe Lenahan (vocals/bass) and Carlos Reyna (drums/percussion), this power trio of talented musicians have given us a major taste of what’s to come. Making comparisons to their debut EP, there’s still a ton of similarities that have passed through to their latest work, specifically lyricism that elegantly paints a picture. For the most part we found their EP to be a delicate mix of folk rock, but what we’re loving about “Tonight We Fly” is a slight lean more into the rock side of things. In fact, the band has claimed themselves they don’t shy away from the term “Dad Rock”, and neither will we, because it fits the description quite well overall.
If there’s one thing that we’ve taken from this listen, it’s that you can fully sense the sheer amount of passion and love that went into it all. The instrumental sections pop with pure ingenuity, the vocals are certainly unique in their own right, but together the oddities work so well to create something that legitimately thinks outside the box. You won’t listen to this and immediately think it falls into the mainstream or sounds similar to other alternative folk rock bands, rather completely one off. Nowadays it’s so incredibly hard to feel that with music, so you can only imagine our delight when 1,000 Year Flood’s latest was sent our way.
