In an unprecedented move by a majority of music’s largest labels, the industry itself has called for “a day to disconnect from work and reconnect with out community” and “an urgent step of action to provoke accountability and change.” This would be happening this upcoming Tuesday, June 2nd.

As much as this is music news, it’s geared mainly towards United States wrongdoings that are in full swing at the moment. Music labels small, large, and everyone in between have taken to their social media accounts to share with their large global audiences the madness that has unfolded over this weekend.

Although it is very much a step in the right direction, this protest and movement for Tuesday is an urgent step forward in provoking real accountable actions for future change. During this time, it’s everyone’s responsibility to hold each other accountable, but also to hold each other up during the inevitable losses we’re all feeling during this time and in the recent past.

The hashtag that is planned to be used now and to the day, will be #THESHOWMUSTBEPAUSED. The show has been paused, but now more than ever, it’s our jobs to bring light to the situation and for those who are able to donate to positive change, to do so. Columbia Records was the first to take a step forward in making this change and soon after nearly every label came to their social media accounts to stand behind them.

As riots, looting, and so much more take over cities small and large in America, you have to begin to ask yourself the question, how can I help? How can any of us really come together to create change that is so ingrained in our systems and police force. Some of these questions are obviously unanswerable, but it doesn’t mean we can’t try. As much as a Social Media Blackout may not see massive change, the fact that these multi million dollar corporations are putting their images on the line to stand up for what’s actually right in the world, should play a huge role in how we react going forward. Staying silent is being complicit.

In this particular case, we ask for those who have extra income to please donate to a cause that matters. Share the message far and wide. We also ask to love one another, stay as safe as you possibly can if riots are near your immediate areas. More importantly, spread the love and kill the unwanted hate.
