The Mattson 2 share details on new single, "The Island of Cheese", musical influences, & recording processes

Released today on November 13th, 2020, The Mattson 2 have officially debuted their first single of 2020, titled “The Island of Cheese”. We got the unique opportunity to speak with Jared and Jonathan Mattson about all the details of the track, in addition to their musical influences and recording processes. Now for those who may be unfamiliar with the music of this overly talented duo, now’s your time to dig in deep to their impressive discography. After the successful release of their album Paradise, released in 2019, we’ve been looking forward to all material that they share with the world. Although our first dive into their music was after the release of 2017’s collaboration album with Chaz Bundick of Toro y Moi, Chaz Bundick Meets The Mattson 2, we’ve since then listened to everything they’ve put out. To no surprise in the slightest, it’s all insanely good.
With the release of “The Island of Cheese”, we feel that this is certainly an evolution in their signature sound, albeit keeping their classic roots as well. Not to give too much away from the interview, because we’d prefer you watched for yourself, but there may or may not be more singles and collaborations on the horizon. Stay tuned for more coming (hopefully) very soon.
If you’re in the mood for mostly instrumental music to zone out to, have on in the background at a gathering, or lounge by the pool or a beach for the day, their music is exactly what you need in your lives. Truly though, it’s made for basically any life situation you find yourself in. The best part of their music though is that every sound you hear is coming from two overly talented artists who play more instruments than we can count. Keep that in mind on your next listen.
