After releasing yet another amazing album titled, Impression, Sugar Candy Mountain continue to solidify their place in the upper echelon of psychedelic music. We got the opportunity to speak with Ash Reiter all about the new record. You can watch our full discussion below.

Officially released on May 28th, 2021 through Org Music and PIAPTK Records, Sugar Candy Mountain’s Impression is the 4th album in the band’s already impressive catalogue. Putting their own spin on a modern psych pop sound, Ash Reiter and Will Halsey have surpassed our wildest expectations. In our interview with Ash, we dove deep on everything surrounding the album, their processes, and so much more.

According to the band themselves, their sound “gallops seamlessly from tripped out Tropicália, Shuggie Otis inspired grooves, kaleidoscopic psych jams, classic 70’s reverie, and nods to krautrock without ever skipping a beat”. If that doesn’t make you want to scroll down immediately and click the play button, then you might be a lost cause for music as a whole.

Now while we would much prefer you to check out our full interview with Ash, the main priority here is for you to give Impression a listen. As fans of everything they’ve put out, but especially 2016’s release of 666, this is the perfect amalgamation of where we’d hoped their sound would go in the year 2021. Taking everything that they’ve made up to this point and somehow continuing to expand on their sound could not have been easy, but the genius behind the music is still alive and kicking. At 13 total tracks, spanning 42 glorious minutes, you need to prepare yourself for the wild and vibed out ride that is Sugar Candy Mountain.

If you can get down with Os Mutantes, Tame Impala, Stereolab, or The Beatles, this is certainly right up your alley. Even if you’re not, but you feel like you may need to venture out a bit and break the mold of your usual listens, we still have to overwhelmingly recommend a spin. It’s legitimately been the only thing we’ve listened to since release day and we don’t see that stopping anytime soon. As the summer weather begins to hit around our part of the world, we’ll undoubtedly have Impression cranked all the way up.

Bringing things to a close for now though, we sincerely appreciate Ash Reiter taking the time to speak with us, and we hope that by the time this has come out she’s had her happy healthy baby!

Do yourselves a favor and dig into this record, watch our interview, and follow along with Sugar Candy Mountain for future releases and information. Enjoy!
