Fresh off the release of his newest piece of work, Emigrant EP, we got the incredible opportunity to speak with Kishi Bashi all about his latest. Do yourselves a favor and check out our full interview below.

Following up the success of 2019’s Omoiyari, Kishi Bashi has made a minor pivot in his sound on his newest work, Emigrant EP. In our full interview with the artist, we talked all about the process of creating this folk-inspired record which turned out beautifully. Having been fans of the artist since the Lighght and Of Montreal days, we urge you to watch our talk to hop on his bandwagon.

As for the EP itself, we couldn’t help but be instantly impressed by the final product. Coming at 6 total tracks, spanning 26 minutes in run time, Kishi Bashi and the band take you through a wonderful journey of imagery-inspired lyricism, an array of heavenly string instruments, and of course his signature vocals that bring everything together. If this happens to be your first introduction to the music of Kishi Bashi as a whole, this certainly is not a bad place to start. However, get ready for a massive shift as you dig into the rest of his discography.

Now of course we don’t want to give away everything we spoke about in our interview, but Kaoru really did give some heartfelt and genuine answers about his processes and what we can expect in the future. There’s plans to hopefully tour in the latter half of the year, as well as live streams that should hopefully be announced in the near future. Truly, whatever the band is planning, you should definitely be checking it out as a live performance from Kishi Bashi never disappoints. Mainly spanning the entirety of their discography, you’re more than likely to fall in love with some major surprises from the set list.

With all this being said though, Emigrant EP was a much needed piece of music that we’ve been craving ever since the release of Omoiyari. As mentioned, if you haven’t yet discovered the beauty and creativity of Kishi Bashi, go ahead and start here, but don’t forget to check out the rest as well. Enjoy!
