Hiatus Kaiyote Tear It Up at Outside Lands in San Francisco
One of our most anticipated acts of Outside Lands 2022 delivered well beyond words! We got the opportunity to witness the greatness of Hiatus Kaiyote front and center for what was easily one of the most psychedelic and jaw dropping musical experiences of our weekend. Please, read on for our full review of their festival set below.
If you’re not familiar with the music of Hiatus Kaiyote, well, you’ve been seriously lacking on one of the most experimental bands of the last 10 or so years. We finally got to witness them play songs off of their latest record, Mood Valiant, which hit even bigger in person. Now while the entirety of the set was uniformed and unforgettable in our eyes, the only unfortunate part of it was that we wish the crowd was a little higher in energy. We understand it’s not the type of music to rage to or sing out loud, however, it still could’ve been a bit better in that regard.
With that being said though, we had the absolute time of our lives getting down to their hits like “Molasses”, “Nakamara”, and they even threw in a cover of David Bowie’s “Within You” which was a major surprise! While the set itself was right around the 45 minute mark, it honestly flew right by in a total flash. Some of the songs felt like they were blending together into one universal experience, or maybe that’s just the vibe that the band gives off as a whole. We can only imagine how incredible it would be to witness them at their own show, but as it feels like they don’t tour a whole lot, we hope to get to see it all go down one day.
As a midday set that started right around 4PM, it was perfect weather and at least the attendees in our area were fairly hyped on the performance. If that’s one thing Outside Lands does well is book acts like Hiatus Kaiyote that are still very much on their way up to becoming major acts. We think they’re in the prime of their lives, and with a performance like that, it’ll only be getting better from here on out.
Lastly, please go ahead and check out the links below to listen to their music if you haven’t done so already!
