Who else would Insomniac choose to DJ the intermezzo of EDC’s opening night? None other than self-proclaimed comedians and DJs Dillon Francis and Valentino Khan. In true comedic fashion they came on stage in Publix (a popular Florida grocery store chain) deli uniforms with bags of sub sandwiches they periodically threw out towards the crowd. No doubt, this was the funniest set of the weekend.

Dillon Francis is a Los Angeles native social media personality and DJ. He is known not only for his music producing, but for his YouTube pranks. He had an unconventional start to his EDM career because he was discovered very early on by industry legend Diplo, because of his social media presence and his interesting remix choices. His blends of English and Spanish music quickly fueled his rise to fame and granted Francis a Latin American Music Award and Latin Grammy for his 2018 album “Wut Wut.” Dillon Francis’ beats successfully get crowds dancing, even if they can’t understand the words to his songs.

Valentino Khan is also a Los Angeles born producer and DJ who has produced many mainstream hits throughout his 11 year long career. He has created many radio hits like “Bubble Butt” with Major Lazer and “Play For Keeps” by B.o.B. In 2015 he remixed Francis’ “When We Were Young,” which led to their friendship, collaborations and pranks against each other.

Their techno arrangements full of bass heavy drops and trap beats drew in a huge crowd of thousands. Not only did they perform together for the entire set, but they made sure everyone in attendance knew they were having fun. Francis constantly joked into the mic about their outfits and they tricked the crowd constantly with varying drops. Watching their set was a fun and funny experience.

The duo played songs like their collaboration “Move It,” Dillon Francis’ hit “Goodies” and Velantino Khan’s remix of “Get Low;” when they had the entire crowd crouched down until the beat dropped. Overall, Dillon Francis B2B Valentino Khan was a highlight of the entire weekend and I hope to see them take the stage together again.
