The Breeders' 30th Anniversary of "Last Splash" Makes Waves In Los Angeles
The Breeders made waves with their return to Los Angeles this week. In honor of the rerelease of their breakthrough sophomore album, Last Splash, The Breeders have embarked on a worldwide tour in celebration of the album that led the group to their rise to international fame. Being ranked in Pitchfork’s Top 100 Records of the 1990’s, as well as receiving platinum status in both the United States and United Kingdom, witnessing the album performed in its entirety is an absolute must-see for music lovers and die hard fans alike.
From the moment the group emerged (using Bauhaus’ Bela Lugosi’s Dead as their entrance track, nonetheless), the crowd could hardly contain themselves. Consisting of Kim Deal (rhythm guitar, lead vocals), her twin sister Kelley Deal (lead guitar, vocals), Josephine Wiggs (bass guitar, vocals) and Jim Macpherson (drums), The Breeders once again proved themselves to remain timeless with their ability to capture an audience from start to finish.
Recently listed in Pitchfork’s 250 Greatest Guitarists of All Time, Kim and Kelley Deal made it abundantly clear as to what earned them that spot on the list. The group’s combined chemistry made it impossible to look away from for even just a second, and as the set progressed, fans remained in the palm of Kim’s hand, singing along to every last lyric.
The evening began with Belly, an alternative band formed in 1991 by Tanya Donelly, former Breeders member. The group set the perfect tone for the night ahead. Wrapping it all up, of course The Breeders got out there and absolutely crushed a perfect set. They’re currently on tour and we highly recommend grabbing a ticket while to witness their music in a live setting. To get a preview, please check out the photo gallery below for a taste.
