Bringing immense amounts of holiday spirit to The Theatre at Ace Hotel in Los Angeles, California, She & Him powered through a career-spanning setlist that left everyone with smiles on their faces and jingles stuck in their head. No matter where you were in the theatre, it was truly impossible not to have the time of your life.

If for some reason though you’re unfamiliar with the group She & Him, it’s actually made up of actress Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward. They’ve been around since 2008, however as of late it’s definitely been more of a rarity to see them play in a live capacity. Considering their music is mainly holiday themed and Christmas-leaning, a show at the start of December like this one was the perfect way to dive head first into the season.

Even better is they’re celebrating the 10th anniversary of their most well known album, A Very She & Him Christmas, so you better believe the setlist was stacked with all the biggest hits. Throughout the night, the group played a total of 34 songs that all effortlessly flowed into each other. Now while we’d love to do a song by song analysis, we’ll leave you wanting more by pointing out the true highlights. They kicked off the night with a lovely cover of Mel Torme’s “The Christmas Song (Chesnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)” to really set the mood of it at all. As the night went on though, they covered all the classics like “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree”, “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”, and even Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You”.

Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, it would’ve been terribly difficult not to sing along or at least be allured by their magnificent stage setup. However even without it, the way that Zooey is able to manipulate her voice and exude so much beauty is truly on another level. Pivoting back and forth between the classics and their originals kept things feeling fresh and even though they played for a while, they still ended up leaving the crowd wanting more at the end. That says quite a bit considering their 8-song encore!

Plain and simple though, their 2 night stand at The Theatre at Ace Hotel will be a long lasting memory in our mind and we’re counting the days down until next December for them to hopefully come back and do it again. Lastly, if you’ve never actually explored She & Him’s music, now’s the ideal time to do so. Get in the spirit by checking out all the important links below. Enjoy!
