Runnner Bring All The Energy to LA's Regent Theater
We’re in the heart of downtown on Main Street with all of the iconic Los Angeles theaters. A glowing white marquee welcomes us to The Regent Theater where local band Runnner is making a return home on their tour run with Vundabar. Thankfully we were there up front and in the mix to recount the night. Please check out our full review and photo gallery below.
Runnner front man, Noah Weinman, was continually thankful for his hometown crowd’s support, mentioning even that his mom was there in the crowd to enjoy the night. Playing tracks from their 2021 album, Always Repeating such as “Heliotrope” and “Monochrome”, Runnner easily captured the attention of the entire Regent Theater. With a musical element reminiscent of Radiohead and early Coldplay, Runnner’s unique songwriting combines raw, realistic lyrics with a twist on the indie rock sound with a lead guitar with a slide and big, ringing, folksy sounding rhythm guitars.
Our favorite song from the night (and the one we’ve had on repeat since) is “Ur Name On A Grain Of Rice”. This song perfectly captures the anguish and pure emotion that enables listeners to really connect with the music and the band. We’ve had the opportunity to see them open up for other acts in the Los Angeles area, but this particular night felt so much different than the last. A buzzing energy could be felt throughout the venue, and with anticipation being incredibly high for the headliners Vundabar, it directly translated into an unprecedented hype for them. To be perfectly honest, it felt more like a co-headlining show if anything.
