On April 13th, 2023, Eliza Spear brought her soulful sound to The Hotel Cafe, and let me tell you, it was a night to remember. From the first note to the last, she had the crowd mesmerized, hanging on every word and every chord. It's not often that I walk away from a concert feeling like I've just witnessed something truly special, but that's exactly how I felt after seeing Eliza Spear perform.

Kicking things off with "Money for a Maybe," the 2nd track from her latest album Right Now, It's Like This," Eliza wasted no time in establishing the tone for the night. With her raw, powerful vocals and emotive guitar playing, she commanded the stage from the get-go. And as the setlist progressed, it became abundantly clear that this was no ordinary concert - this was a masterclass in songwriting, storytelling, and pure musical talent.

One of the standout moments of the night came during "Broken Heart and a Song," when the entire crowd joined in to sing along. It was a beautiful moment of unity and shared experience, and it only served to reinforce the emotional power of Eliza's music. Another highlight was "Lucky Lucy," during which Eliza made a hilarious remark about spilling someone's secrets in her songs. It was a perfect example of her quirky sense of humor, which she wove seamlessly into her performance.

"Thought It'd Be Nice" was a particularly poignant moment, as Eliza opened up about her relationship with faith and spirituality. It was a vulnerable and honest moment that drew the crowd in even closer. And then there was her cover of "Make You Feel My Love," during which the entire room erupted in a collective singalong. It was one of those rare moments where everyone in the room felt like they were part of something bigger than themselves - like we were all gathered in the dining hall of a summer camp after lunch, having a song session.

But perhaps the most powerful moment of the night came during "Everything You Wish You Had". It's a hauntingly beautiful song that builds to a cathartic crescendo, and when Eliza hit that final note, the room was electric. It was one of those moments where you could feel the emotions of everyone in the room - the pain, the love, the hope, the sorrow. It was a truly transcendent experience.

As the night came to a close with Mother and Halfwit; the first and final songs on her album, It was clear that we had just witnessed something special. Eliza Spear had taken us on a journey through the highs and lows of the human experience, and we were all better for it. If you haven't had a chance to check out her latest album "Right Now, It's Like This," do yourself a favor and give it a listen. And if you ever get a chance to see Eliza Spear perform live, don't hesitate - it's an experience you won't soon forget.
