Dope Lemon Brings His Good Vibes to Portland's Crystal Ballroom
Hailing all the way from Sydney, Australia, Dope Lemon (AKA Angus Stone) rolled into Portland’s Crystal Ballroom on Saturday night. Fresh off his latest album, “Kimosabè” released this past September, Stone brought a full band, laidback tunes and a perfect show for a weekend vibe across the pacific.
Dressed in bright red suits, accompanied with cowboy boots and hats, the band took the stage as the crowd roared with excitement. An amazing melodic intro began and the band dove straight into the song, “Stonecutters” off of past album, “Honey Bones.” Throughout the night, Stone took the opportunity to showcase a little taste of each album released thus far with a healthy mix of hits such as, “Marinade,” and “Rose Pink Cadillac,” while giving some more OG fans deeper cuts such as, “Coyote.” The sheer joy and cheer felt from fans in the room was on another level and certainly enough to make any casual listener a die hard fan.
Speaking of the casual to die hard fan pipeline, before ““Kimosabè” was released, past album covers highlighted the iconic lemon head doodle on a person's body, keeping the identity of the musician anonymous until recently when Stone chose to put himself on the cover of the latest album. In an interview with Rolling Stone, he noted, “This record is everything that’s me. In the past, the artwork has been anonymous in a way because I was trying to explore these styles, and having this shield in front of me was beautiful – I could sort of slink around in the shadows and wouldn’t have the public make judgement on the person behind it.”
You could genuinely tell the crowd was more than stoked for him to be there, to revel in the great music produced and genuinely supported both himself, and the move to become the public face of Dope Lemon.
If you want a night full of psychedelic chill vibes, check out Dope Lemon on tour with support from Frankie Jonas. This show is surely not one to miss!
