Benson Boone Electrifies The Union in Salt Lake City
Benson Boone has once again exceeded all expectations regarding his most recent concert at The Union in Salt Lake City, Utah over the weekend. Not only was his stage presence addictive, but the audience sang to every song whether Benson sang as well or alongside a piano accompaniment.
For those potentially unaware, Benson Boone is a twenty-year-old from Monroe, Washington who auditioned for American idol in 2021. According to him, he never took singing seriously until he and a friend joined a battle of the band’s competition in their town, and he went all out. Though he withdrew from American Idol after making it to Hollywood, word of his talent has spread all around the world.
The overall experience at this concert is as expected, long lines to get into the venue starting earlier that day, audience members chanting for Benson to come onto stage right after the opener finished his set, and some starstruck fans. While waiting in line before the venue doors opened, Benson and a few of his crew members drove around the block to see fans and thank them for waiting when over fifty individuals left the line to crowd the car and get his attention. While running back to the line, a few were yelling to their friends “HE TOUCHED ME”, “HE SAID HE LOVES ME”, or “HE KNOWS MY NAME”.
Through the night, Boone dedicated songs to his family, friends, and the crowd that is likely to unlock a core memory in some audience members for a long time. A trend in his TikTok videos is to sing with his sister, Claire, who he brought on stage to sing along with him to an unreleased song. The best moment of the night was seeing the control that Boone had on the crowd: from including the audience in the buildup and bridge of his performance of another unreleased song, to controlling how loud the crowd got with the movement of his arms. His composure and excitement for performing is infectious and proves that he is right where he should be.
